Less than $20 for a full day of fun and adventure in Park City, Priceless Family Memories that will last a life time!
It has been a busy week for me, so I am just getting around to posting about our family adventure in Park City last Saturday. It was Sundance on less than $20! We started out the morning by getting everyone's jackets, hats, and gloves together since it was really cold here in AF. It was around 20 which is warmer than we had been but still cold. After getting all the girls dressed really warm in tights, pants, t-shirts, shirts, and sweaters we were off to run a few errands. We needed some bread so we stopped by the day old bread store. Then it was off to the dollar store for some treats. I was glad that I remembered that we needed some peanut butter for our sandwiches, so we got some and were off to Park City.
We had to stop in Heber for a potty break. Both of the girls needed to go, so we stopped at a gas station. I swear the bathrooms were crazy. The toilets kept flushing for a full 5 minutes and were still going when we left!!
We finally got into Park City and found a great parking spot that was close to everything. The girls were so excited to ride the free shuttle bus around park city. The stroller was packed and we were on our way. We stopped first at Prospector Square for a little while. We wanted to scope out where the film would be showing. That was really fun. Then we walked back to Headquarters. The girls were enjoying the clean fresh air and the blue sky. Something that we haven't seen in awhile down here on the other side of the mountains.
Headquarters was fun too. We picked up some of the books with the schedules in them and had fun finding the shorts. The kids loved getting warm by the fireplace. There was an older couple that thought they were all a hoot eating their treats and actually behaving for once. I finally got a hold of Chris and found out that everyone was coming up for the short, so that was exciting. We decided to walk back to the Prospector to wait on everyone to get there.
We took some pictures out side of the theater and the girls had some more outside time. I did get a text from Chris saying that they would be awhile, so Steve and I decided that we would take the kids back to the van to eat lunch. On the way out, we saw Becca. She is the girl that was in the film with Katy. She told us that everyone wanted to see us so to make sure that we came back when the film was over for the Q&A. She gave us some of the mini-movie posters for the film. We chatted for a few and then it was on the bus for lunch.
The kids loved the bus ride and before long we were back at our parking lot. The girls were great again. It was time for lunch. It was then when we discovered that Ruby had stepped all over the bread, so we were in for smashed peanut butter sandwiches. The kids were great with no complaints and even decided what their bread looked like too. We had dinosaurs, birds, and fish. We brought drinks from home and that ended up a big hit too. We watched a little bit of the Garfield 2 movie to waste some time. Ruby needed to go potty again, so I took her across the street to a little place to eat. I was thankful that she actually went b/c most times she won't.
We got the kids packed up and loaded on the bus to go back to the theater. The movie showing was about half over, so we still had another 45 minutes before Q&A. The girls played a lot in the lobby of the Prospector and had fun walking around. There was a little cafe inside and I was walking through with Katy. Before I knew it another director asked if that was the baby from the movie?? Right after I said Yes, Katy was swept up and run around the little cafe to be introduced to some of the other directors and actors from other shorts that were in the Shorts Series 3. It was a hoot. She would say Hi and then Sundance. She was so in diva mode that afternoon. Steve ran into someone he used to work with and that was fun too. You never know who you are going to run into.
We ended up taking the kids outside again and it was a warm 38 in the sun. So you know my kids. No jackets at all and they loved to just be outside. The posed for the camera and were the unofficial welcoming committee to the theater. Before we knew it the showing was over and it was time for Q&A. It was so much fun to watch people leave the theater and whisper to each other "Is that the baby from the movie?" Same thing happened when we were in the theater too. The girls were good and Ruby needed another potty break.
After Q&A we got the chance to take pictures by the poster for the film with a lot of people. It was a lot of fun to meet everyone's family. Katy charmed them all but was really tired by this time. She was just about asleep for most of the pics that were taken.
Our day wasn't over yet. We got back on the bus for the ride to our van. We ended up sitting by a photographer for the SL Tribune. He took pics of Katy and all of our info too. He told his reporter that it would make a great local interest story, so we will see if it ends up in the paper or not.
The girls stayed up the whole ride home which Steve and I were shocked at. They did eat a great dinner at home and went to bed early. The clean air and outside time really did do wonders.
I was so glad that we could go and spend the day as a family and have some fun too. The girls loved to say "My sister is a movie star." and that it was......a Movie Star Day.
